Cowell Student Health Center Seismic Corrections and Renovations


Service Locations During Construction

Student Health Services will continue to operate at the Health Center while construction is taking place. Anyone may go to the Cowell Student Health Center to see a doctor, make an appointment, or access the pharmacy.

Student Health and Outreach Programs (SHOP) has relocated to Kresge College, Rm.157 (across the patio from the college office)

Rape Prevention Education Program has been relocated to Kresge College, Rm 153.

Overview

This project will address seismic deficiencies by upgrading the existing structural systems to a seismic performance of "Good". The structural work will also trigger mandatory accessibility other code improvements. Construction includes addition of additional space to accommodate current health services offered on campus. Schedule

Phases of Construction: Demolition and Structural Upgrade of basement and second floor to begin June 16 and to be completed by September 22, 2008.

Monday (07/28/08):

  • Radar of rebar in 1st & 2nd Floors slabs at gridlines 1, 2A & 5.
  • Continue saw-cutting at Basement along gridline 1(mild intermittent noise)

Tuesday (07/29/08):

  • Ongoing lead paint removal in Basement (after 5:00 PM).
  • Bushing & drilling concrete in Basement, 1st & 2nd Floors along gridlines 1, 2A, & 5
    (mild intermittent noise)

Wednesday (07/30/08):

  • Ongoing Mech / Electrical safe-off and demo at Basement, 1st & 2nd Floors.
  • Bushing & drilling concrete in Basement, 1st & 2nd Floors along gridlines 1, 2A, & 5
    (mild intermittent noise).
  • Continue saw-cutting in Basement between gridlines F & D2 and along gridline 1.
    This work to start at 4 AM and continue throughout day.

Thursday (07/31/08):

  • Ongoing coring slabs on 1st & 2nd Floor from gridlines 2A to 5 and K to F (mild
    intermittent noise).
  • Bushing & drilling concrete in Basement, 1st & 2nd Floors along gridlines 1, 2A, & 5
    (mild intermittent noise)

Friday (08/01/08):

  • Bushing & drilling concrete in Basement, 1st & 2nd Floors along gridlines 1, 2A, & 5
    (mild intermittent noise)
