Kresge College
Kresge College's theme, Cultural Intersections, encourages students to "find themselves and discover others" while building a participatory, multi-cultural community. Programs in journalism, literature, creative writing, and women’s studies emphasize the creative possibilities of intercultural exchange and multicultural life.
Eleven two-story apartment buildings house about 300 students in four-person flats, seven-person suites, and unique quartets designed by Kresge students. Five three-story apartment buildings at Kresge East house 28 apartments—four single bedrooms each—reserved for continuing, re-entry, and transfer students.
Kresge Food Co-op
The Kresge Food Co-op is a student-run nonprofit natural food store located in Kresge College. It sells bulk food, produce, sandwiches, ice cream, snacks, and other groceries. Under the student-run collective, the purpose is not just to run a store, but to educate people toward personal and social change.
Students are trained to run the business in an economically feasible but nonhierarchical manner (there is no manager). The co-op makes information available to customers about the social and environmental consequences related to food consumption, and it tries to carry products that do not have adverse effects on the society and environment. You can become involved in the Kresge Food Co-op in a number of ways.
