UCSC has men's and women's NCAA intercollegiate teams (see below) that compete in Division III. Athletic clubs offer less formal college club competition with teams in fencing, lacrosse, rugby, sailing, triathlon, running, cycling, and ultimate Frisbee. The campus also sponsors intramural leagues in basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, and floor hockey.

Utilize the many available facilities, programs and resources to get in shape and stay healthy.
Recreation and sports facilities include an Olympic-sized pool; playing fields; a jogging track; rooms for martial arts, dance, and weight conditioning; a new state-of-the-art fitness center; tennis, racquetball, and basketball courts; two fully equipped gyms; and boating facilities.

The Recreation Program's mission is to provide the UCSC community with an opportunity to gain skills, have fun, be challenged, and make personal connections through outdoor, recreational and hands-on learning experiences. A wide range of adventures, activities, classes and workshops provide opportunities for beginners as well as more experienced participants.
Existing programs include rafting, rock climbing, sea kayaking, surfing, wilderness survival, wilderness orientation and more.
