The campus offers guaranteed housing to all new, single undergraduate students who enter in fall quarter. The undergraduate residential colleges are at the heart of the UC Santa Cruz experience. With convenient access to academic, recreational, dining, and social facilities (e.g. College Ten) and student services, about 45 percent of single undergraduate students live in the colleges.
College residence halls have shared rooms and a limited number of private rooms (e.g. Cowell and Porter Colleges), as well as common lounge areas and bathrooms. College apartments also have various combinations of shared and private bedrooms, along with kitchen, bathroom, and living spaces. Many living areas offer themes or accomodate certain lifestyles or preferences.

In addition to the colleges, several other facilities on and off campus are available for student housing including The Village, the University Town Center and the University Inn and Conference Center. Specialty housing also exists for graduate students, students with families students with RVs, and faculty.
The Community Rentals Office provide listing and resources for students seeking off-campus housing.
