Welcome to Student Affairs

Let Your Voice Be Heard

Student organizations are an excellent way to gain valuable life experience in leadership and planning, and develop rewarding and lasting friendships. You can get involved in one or more ethnic, religious, Greek, environmental, political advocacy, artistic, or social organizations registered through the Student Organization Advising and Resources (SOAR) office.

Student Organization Advising and Resources (SOAR) office also provides resources for students who wish to create new organizations and existing organizations to plan events, write fund proposals and many other aspects critical to organizational needs.

Student Media coordinates the efforts of UCSC's five student-run newspapers and five student-run literary journals, which cover a range of interests and viewpoints. Several student publications, including Leviathan and, the student weekly, City on a Hill, have won awards for writing. KZSC-FM, UCSC’s student-run radio station, broadcasts music, news, and special-interest programs.

Encourage Social Justice and Diversity

There are six Resource Centers at the University whose mission it is to support an environment of ethnic, cultural and social diversity on campus. They strive to provide and enhance opportunities for developing leadership, build a stronger sense of community on campus and link students to community service opportunities.

African American Student Life Resource and Cultural Center
American Indian Resource Center
Asian American/ Pacific Islander Resource Center
Chicano Latino Student Life Resource Center
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex Resource Center
Women's Center

Develop Leadership & Serve Your Community

The Institute for Leadership Development and Social Responsibility strives to engage UCSC students in university-wide learning opportunities centered on the development of leadership and character building skills. Civic engagement, community service, and leadership are the components that guide all programs and opportunities provided by the Institute.

Community service is a vital part of the University’s mission. The Student Volunteer Center (SVC) is a student run organization designed to bridge student involvement in the Santa Cruz community through meaningful volunteer opportunities and provide a forum for involved students to share with each other and learn from their experiences in our community.
